The parent teachers' meeting was held on the 24th September, 2009 from 5.30 to around 8 O Clock. I was assigned to the crafts section, along with Sirada and Shi Ren. Si decided to do origami and I helped her with cutting the paper for the children. We laid out a mat in front of the year one classroom to host the activity. Later on though, during the actual event, I ended up helping with the cooking because there was a lack of people. I had to help make some cheese and tomatoe sauce flapjacks that were grilled over the BBQ. I also washed up afterwards, together with Shi ren.
I found the event quite productive, as not only did parents get to meet teachers, they were also introduced to the Accreditation System that had just been introduced to us earlier the week before, and which I find will bring about positive changes in the school. The system uses a self-study team, of which parents were invited to be a part of, to reflect on the state of the school and to rate and suggest improvements. The implemented changes will doubtless be beneficial to the whole school, and will be also well supported as all the different members of the school community will be involved in the process of suggesting and deciding which changes should be made. This system is one that i personally think should be global. i also feel that these types of events also help the school community to be tighter and more close knit.
overall, I like how I got to work with the year 12s and had the opportunity to get to know them better. I really had a good time today helping out and talking to people, and hope to have the opportunity to do so again soon. :)
